Marc Dechavanne is a French university professor specializing in applied nuclear medicine in hematology. He served as the president of Claude Bernard University Lyon 1 from 1997 to 2001 and is the president of the Medical Studies Coordination Committee of the Hospitals of Lyon. He was appointed to the board of the École normale supérieure de Lyon in November 2000. Dechavanne coordinated a project for a European network on nosocomial infections and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Łódź in 1999. He was made a knight of the National Order of Merit in 2002.
