Marc Garneau is a Canadian politician, engineer, and retired military officer, born on February 23, 1949. He served as Canada’s Minister of Transport and is a Member of Canada's House of Commons. Garneau was the first Canadian in space, participating in three NASA space shuttle missions in 1984, 1996, and 2000. He served as president of the Canadian Space Agency from 2001 to 2006 and was elected as a member of Parliament in 2008. Garneau announced his candidacy for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada in 2012 but withdrew in 2013.
