Marcel Boiteux (May 9, 1922 – September 6, 2023) was a French economist, mathematician, and senior civil servant, known as the 'architect of the French nuclear program'. Under his guidance, 61 nuclear reactors were built, making France’s electricity sector less carbon-intensive than most other European countries, except Iceland. Boiteux joined Électricité de France (EDF) in 1949, working throughout his career there, including a stint as president of the Econometric Society in 1959 and as director of EDF from 1967 to 1987. He was pivotal in defining electricity pricing and nuclear policy in France.
