Hoste was educated at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. He initially focused on religious and daily life themes in his artwork, later shifting to folk subjects like fairs and puppetry. In 1952, he founded the Sabbattini Pantomime Theatre in Ghent, which gained international recognition, attracting renowned mime artists. Hoste also established a mime school, influencing the artistic landscape of Flanders.
