Marcel Thielemans was a Belgian singer and trombonist born on May 13, 1912, in Schaerbeek. He joined The Ramblers as a trombonist in 1933 and gained fame for producing and popularizing numerous French songs. He remained with the orchestra until its dissolution in 1964. Thielemans participated in the Dutch preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957 and 1960, and later rejoined The Ramblers when they were reformed in 1974. After the death of the group's founder, Jack Bulterman, in 1978, he took over the leadership until 1998.
