Marcelo Paixão de Araújo was a Brazilian businessman and military officer, serving as a second lieutenant in the Brazilian Army during the military dictatorship's 'Years of Lead.' He infamously admitted to torturing around thirty political prisoners. Recognized for his military services, he was awarded the Medalha da Inconfidência. In a 1998 interview, he became the first acknowledged torturer from the dictatorship, confessing to numerous cases of torture. In December 2008, he faced a Humanity crimes lawsuit, and he passed away in March 2009 at age 61.
