Mareez, born Abbas Abdul Ali Vasi, was a prominent Gujarati poet recognized for his Ghazals, often referred to as the Ghalib of Gujarat. He left formal education early to work in a rubber shoe factory. Although he pursued journalism due to his passion for poetry, he struggled financially throughout his life. Many of his Ghazals were published posthumously, while some remained uncredited and were sold during his financial hardships. His reputation grew significantly after his death on 19 October 1983.
