Margalida Jofre i Roca was a pioneer in establishing support for deaf individuals in Spain, being the first woman to create an association for the deaf in the country. Born in 1905 in Andratx, she became deaf at a young age after a fall. After studying at a special school in Barcelona, she returned to Mallorca, where she worked tirelessly to create a registry and ultimately an educational institution for the deaf. In 1942, she founded the Balearic delegation of Acció Catòlica de Sordmuts, and she passed away in 1969.
