Margaret F. Ackroyd (1908-1995) was a pioneering civil servant from Providence, RI, instrumental in establishing the state's first minimum wage laws and labor standards. A statistician in the 1930s, she was appointed Chief of the Division of Women and Children in 1940. Ackroyd founded the Commission on the Status of Women in RI and served on the national Commission on the Status of Women. Recognized for her contributions, she received several awards, including an honorary doctorate. After retiring, she became a consultant, advocating for women's and labor rights.
