Margaret Valiant was an influential American musician, folklorist, ethnomusicologist, and activist born on February 22, 1901, in Mississippi. She graduated with a music degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory in 1922 and later worked with the Resettlement Administration, organizing music festivals and advocating for women's rights. Valiant was also involved with the National Youth Administration's music program. A civil rights activist in the 1950s, her papers and recordings are preserved in notable archives, reflecting her commitment to music and social justice, until her passing in 1982.
