Dame Margaret McRae Whitehead, born on 28 September 1948, is the W.H. Duncan chair in Public Health at the University of Liverpool. She leads the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Policy Research on the Social Determinants of Health. Whitehead is known for her extensive publications on the impact of social equality on health and the social effects of chronic illness. Additionally, she has provided advice on government health policy and written reports for the WHO, focusing on health inequalities. She has been an associate editor for Cochrane Public Health Review Group since 2008 and holds a visiting Professorship at the Karolinska Institute.
