She has served as the head of RT, a multilingual Russian state-funded international television network, since 2005. Under her leadership, RT Arabic became popular in the Arab world, despite her not being fluent in Arabic. She was also appointed to oversee RT en Español in 2009. Known as a close associate of President Putin, Simonyan has been instrumental in shaping international media coverage from a Russian perspective. Her career began as a reporter, quickly rising to prominent leadership roles.
