Maria Alice Giudice Barroso Soares (1926—2012) was a prominent Brazilian librarian, novelist, and short story writer. She gained recognition for her literary contributions, notably winning the Walmap Award for her novel 'A Name to Kill' published in 1967, and the prestigious Premio Jabuti in 1989 for 'The Untamed Horse Saga' released in 1988. In addition to her writing career, Barroso held significant roles, including director of the National Book Institute, the National Library of Brazil, and the Brazilian National Archives.
