Maria Manoliu-Manea is a Romanian-American linguist and university professor, born in Galați in 1934. She graduated in Romanian Philology in 1995 and obtained her PhD in Letters from the University of Bucharest in 1966. She moved to the United States in 1979. She has held various prestigious positions, including president of the American-Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences and is noted for her teaching roles at the University of Bucharest and the University of California, Davis, where she became a professor emerita.
