Maria Mercè Costa i Paretas was a prominent Catalan archivist, recognized as the first director of the Archive of the Crown of Aragon from 1983 until her retirement in 1988. She obtained her degree in Philosophy and Letters, specializing in History, in 1949. Upon joining the Faculty of Archivists in 1954, she worked in various archives before taking a key role at the Archive of the Crown of Aragon. Her extensive research focused on religious and military orders, nobility, and Sardinian documentation, leading to numerous studies and contributions to international historical congresses.
