Mãe Stella de Oxóssi, born Maria Stella de Azevedo Santos, was a prominent Candomblé priestess in Brazil. She became the fifth iyalorixá of Ilê Axé Opô Afonjá and was initiated into Candomblé in 1939, assuming leadership in 1976. Known for her writings on Candomblé beliefs for a broader audience, she contributed significantly to the public understanding of the religion. Later in life, she experienced health challenges, relocating to the interior of Bahia and passing away on December 27, 2018, in Salvador, where she was also buried.
