Marie-France Vignéras is a French mathematician born in 1946, renowned for her 1980 proof of the existence of isospectral non-isometric Riemannian surfaces. This discovery illustrates that one cannot discern the shape of a hyperbolic drum. She also established the mod-l Langlands correspondence for GL(n) in 2000. Vignéras has served as a professor emerita since 2010 and has held various academic positions globally. Her honors include the Albert Chatelet Medal (1978) and election to the Academia Europaea (2017). She was born in Senegal and completed her education in France.
