Marie van Rossen is a Dutch former mayor affiliated with the PvdA party, born on July 27, 1944, in Kampen. She studied political science and sinology, earning her master's in social sciences in 1975. van Rossen served as a lecturer at Leiden University. She was a member of the Provincial States of South Holland for eight years and later became a city council member and alderman in Leiden. She began her mayoral career in Hellevoetsluis in 1990 and became the first female mayor of Alkmaar in January 2001, retiring in December 2006.
