Marietje Witteveen, also known by her married name Marie ter Spill-Witteveen, was a Dutch writer and illustrator of children's books. Born in Enschede on May 24, 1917, she graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 1937 and later attended the Technical University in Delft from 1971 to 1974. Witteveen published seven picture books between 1940 and 1950, which featured stories about mischievous children. Her illustrations were characterized by a modernist style, rich colors, and no outlines. She passed away in The Hague on October 30, 1999.
