Marifé Arroyo, known as la Mestra, is a Valencian teacher born on November 17, 1946. She was a key figure in the 1970s Pedagogical Renewal Movement, being one of the first to introduce Valencian into public schools in 1974. An advocate for a popular, democratic, and Valencian educational model, she faced reprisals that led to her transfer to another school where she eventually became director. Married to writer Josep Piera, she retired in 2007 after over 30 years in education and was later featured in novels and documentaries about her contributions.
