Mario Gerardo Redondo Poveda is a Costa Rican lawyer and politician, currently serving as the Mayor of Cartago since 2020. He has been a deputy twice, first from 2002 to 2006 with the Christian Social Unity Party, where he presided over the Legislative Assembly. He represented his own founded party, the Christian Democratic Alliance, from 2014 to 2018. Known as a strong opposition figure against President Luis Guillermo Solís, Redondo is part of the conservative group opposed to controversial issues such as in vitro fertilization and same-sex union recognition. He was reelected mayor in 2024.
