Marita Petersen was a Faroese social-democratic politician affiliated with the Party of Equality. She was born as Marita Johansen on October 21, 1940, in Vágur and passed away on August 26, 2001, in Tórshavn. Petersen made history as the first and only woman to serve as the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands from 1993 to 1994. Additionally, she held the positions of party president from 1993 to 1996 and president of the Løgting from 1994 to 1995.
