Marius Soetendal (1922-2010) was a Dutch politician associated with the ARP and later the CDA. During World War II, he was involved in resistance activities and spent nine months in Kamp Amersfoort. He became the mayor of Genemuiden in 1961, gaining national attention due to a car incident shortly before his installation. In 1966, he was appointed mayor of Papendrecht, a position he held until his retirement in 1987. He also served as chairman of the national association of mayors. Soetendal passed away in September 2010 due to heart failure.
