In 2016, she won the Jussi Award for Best Costume Design for her contributions to Mika Kaurismäki's film 'Tyttökuningas'. She was also nominated for a Canadian Screen Award in 2017. Nissinen has designed costumes for notable films such as 'Tali-Ihantala 1944' and 'Tuntematon sotilas'. In 2018, she received the Pro Finlandia medal. She has also worked in theater and magazines, and leads her design agency established in 1987.
