Mark Drakeford is a Welsh politician born on September 19, 1954, in Carmarthen. He studied Latin at the University of Kent in Canterbury and Exeter University before working in social employment. In the early 1990s, he became a lecturer in social studies at Swansea University and later at Cardiff University. Drakeford was first elected as a councillor in 1985 and joined the Welsh Government in 2000. He became the Minister for Health in 2013, later the Minister for Finance, and in December 2018, he was elected the leader of the Welsh Labour Party, consequently becoming the First Minister of Wales.
