In 2014, he contemplated a run for the U.S. House of Representatives, intending to contest against Justin Amash in Michigan's 3rd congressional district. Unfortunately, Jansen was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2020 and passed away on March 23, 2021, at the age of 61.
