He achieved notable success in various marathons, securing a second place finish at the Venice Marathon in 1999, third place at the Turin Marathon in 2000 with a personal best of 2:09:00 hours, and sixth place at the Paris Marathon in 2001. He won the Athens Marathon in 2002 and had multiple prominent finishes in other marathons, including the Los Angeles Marathon in 2005. He began taking running seriously in 1998 while studying sociology at Kenyatta University.
