Mark Shtaif is an Israeli communication scientist and a professor at Tel Aviv University, where he became rector in October 2020. Born in 1966 in Kishinev, USSR, he immigrated to Israel in 1973. After completing his military service, he earned his degrees in electrical engineering from the Technion. Shtaif worked at AT&T before joining Tel Aviv University in 2002. His research focuses on fiber optics and optical communication, integrating optics, quantum theory, and signal processing. He has held various leadership positions within the university's engineering faculty.
