As an athlete, he was a strong all-rounder, winning German championships twice and contributing to the national team for World and European Championships. After retiring, he became a coach in 1985 and later served as a national coach, training numerous elite female skaters. He passed away on March 13, 2022, at the age of 67 after a long illness.
