Reverend Markus Kooper (1918-2005) was a Namibian activist, educator, and religious leader from Hoachanas. He was notable for advocating for Namibia's independence from apartheid South Africa and was one of the first Namibians to address the United Nations. Educated by the Rhenish Missionary Society, he served as a teacher and headmaster, later becoming a community spiritual leader. After going into exile in 1960, he represented the South West Africa United National Independence Organisation and returned to establish a private school, remaining politically active and resisting apartheid resettlement efforts.
