Before his election to the cantonal government in 2004, he worked as a lawyer, notary, and prosecutor. He has held various roles in local government and party leadership, including President of the Uri Cantonal Party and community president of Altdorf. After his term ended in 2016, he returned to practicing law and took on roles within the non-profit sector and tourism management.
