Maroli Krishnayya Chandrashekaran (1937-2009), known as Shekar or MKC, was an influential Indian zoologist and the pioneer of chronobiology in India, studying biological rhythms in organisms. He was a fellow of both the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Third World Academy of Sciences. Chandrashekaran earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in zoology from Presidency College, Chennai, and a PhD from the University of Madras. He was a prominent Reader in the School of Biological Sciences at Madurai Kamaraj University and served as editor for notable scientific journals.
