Marta Iris Muñoz Cascante is a prominent Costa Rican politician born on November 18, 1956, in San José. She graduated with a law degree from the University of Costa Rica in 1982, and began her professional career as a prosecutor and mixed mayor. She worked in various judicial roles in Cartago and became a public defender in Tibás in 1985. Throughout the 1990s, she served as the Deputy Director of Public Defense and in 1996 was appointed by the Supreme Court as the Director General of Public Defense of Costa Rica, a position she continues to hold.
