She began her education at Tornimäe Primary School, taught by her father, and later attended Läänemaa Teacher's Seminar. Kivi worked at several schools including Tumala School where she was the first director after her father's death in 1944. Renowned for her dedication, she not only taught primary classes but also offered language lessons in Estonian and German, and led various choirs. She became the oldest resident of Estonia on December 10, 2018, and was recognized as the oldest known person from Saaremaa.
