Martha Jean Steinberg, known as 'The Queen', was a pioneering African-American radio broadcaster born on September 9, 1930. She began her radio career in 1954 at WDIA in Memphis, becoming one of the first female disc jockeys in the U.S. and later moved to Detroit, where she continued her impactful career at WJLB. In addition to broadcasting, she became an ordained minister and established her own church. Known for her call to calm during riots, she was recognized posthumously, being inducted into several halls of fame and leaving a lasting legacy in broadcasting.
