Martha Kronenberg was a German baker's daughter and bread saleswoman, born on February 14, 1911, in Schwelm. During the Nazi regime, she courageously supported persecuted Jewish citizens in her community, particularly in Schwelm and nearby Wuppertal. Her efforts went largely unrecognized for decades, but in 2018 the city honored her memory by naming a street after her. Kronenberg's activism included providing food and support to Jews during their persecution, even risking her life to do so. She remained committed to her cause throughout her life and was a key figure in the local resistance.
