Martí Torrent i Blanchart (1912-2012) was a prominent Catalan politician and independentist from Arenys de Mar. He was a member of Estat Català since 1936 and fought in the Spanish Civil War, notably as part of the Catalan Flying Column and the 132 Mixed Brigade. He played a role in defending Estat Català’s headquarters during the May Events of 1937. After the Spanish Civil War, he was involved in the Front Nacional de Catalunya and worked with U.S. consulate intelligence to gather information on Nazi activities in Catalonia. He served as vice president of Estat Català until his death.
