Martin Gunnar Knutsen was a Norwegian politician and the chairman of the Communist Party of Norway from 1975 to 1982. Born on September 29, 1918, in Skien, he actively participated in the resistance during the German occupation of Norway and published the clandestine bulletin Fritt fram. Knutsen later served as a newsreader for Radio Moscow and was notable for announcing Stalin's death to Norway. He led the orthodox faction within NKP and eventually left the party in 1990 after decades of membership. He died on February 23, 2001.
