Martin Ugarte Azurmendi, also known as Saletxe, was a Basque writer born on February 14, 1916, in Legazpi, Gipuzkoa. He lived in the Saletxe farmhouse in the Telleriarte neighborhood of Legazpi. Ugarte worked for about forty years at the Patrizio Etxeberria factory after spending his youth as a shepherd. He published his novel 'On egiñaren obaria' in 1972, and many of his poems were featured in the Olerti and Zeruko Argia magazines between 1959 and 1969. In 1993, he released a collection of sayings from the Legazpi region, documenting local dialect and language.
