Martine de Schutter was a Dutch activist for AIDS awareness and prevention. Born on March 14, 1965, in Heijningen, North Brabant, she was a cultural anthropologist who began her career with the World Health Organization in South America. She worked with AIDS Action Europe and served as the program director for Bridging the Gaps. Tragically, she lost her life in the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 disaster on July 17, 2014, while attending the 20th International AIDS Conference in Melbourne, Australia.
