After participating in both the Winter and Continuation Wars, he established a workshop in Lahti with his brothers. Kemppi became a major owner and leader of Veljekset Kemppi, which evolved into a limited company in 1950. He led the company until 1980, after which his son took over. Kemppi was honored with the title of Teollisuusneuvos in 1972.
