He played for the University of Minnesota and was drafted into the NFL by the Chicago Cardinals in 1940. After serving in the military during World War II, where he was wounded in the Battle of Tarawa and received the Purple Heart, he transitioned to a civilian career as a police officer and later owned a gas station. He passed away on March 29, 1999, leaving a legacy of service and sacrifice.
