Mary Alice Barton (1917-2003) was an esteemed American quilter, historian, and philanthropist, recognized for her substantial contributions to quilt collecting and research. Inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame in 1984, her quilt 'Heritage Quilt' was honored as one of the 100 Best American Quilts of the 20th century in 1999. Barton pioneered the collection of women's magazines and fabrics to date quilts. Her extensive collection of quilts and fashion items was donated to various Iowa institutions, promoting research, teaching, and exhibitions.
