Mary Golda Ross was the first known female engineer in the United States and the first engineer in Lockheed's history. She was one of the founding engineers of the highly secretive Skunk Works project at Lockheed. Her career spanned from 1942 until her retirement in 1973, and she is best remembered for her work in aerospace design, including the Agena rocket program, and significant contributions to concepts for interplanetary travel, orbital flights, and satellite studies for defense and civilian purposes.
