Mary Milligan (1935-2011) was an influential American theologian and university administrator, serving as the tenth general superior of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary from 1980 to 1985. Notably, she was the first U.S.-born general superior of the order. In 1987, she was appointed as a special secretary to the International Synod of Bishops on the Laity by the Vatican, advocating for a stronger role for women in the Catholic Church. Milligan also held various positions at Loyola Marymount University and taught theology to seminarians.
