Mary N. Torrey (1910-1998) was a noted American mathematical statistician and quality control expert recognized for her pioneering work in acceptance sampling. She collaborated with Harold F. Dodge at Bell Labs, where the Dodge–Torrey continuous sampling plans were developed. A Durant Scholar from Wellesley College, she earned a master's degree in mathematical statistics from Columbia University. Elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association for her contributions to sampling inspection, she significantly advanced statistical quality control in electronics.
