Known by her real name, Mariko Saka, she graduated from Sugiyama Jogakuen University Junior College with a focus on Japanese literature. Saiki began her writing journey by founding and editing a science fiction fanzine during her studies. After the age of 30, she gained recognition for her fantasy novels, including the 'Shinrōki' series and 'Byzantine Eagle', as well as historical novels such as 'Aoi Arashi'. She passed away from pneumonia at the age of 55 on January 12, 2010.
