Masami Tsuruoka (1929-2014) was a prominent Japanese Canadian karate instructor, hailed as 'The Father of Canadian Karate' by Black Belt Magazine. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Chito-ryu style in Canada and created his own style, Tsuruoka Ryu. Tsuruoka promoted Chito-ryu karate through various media and public demonstrations from 1958 to 1968. In 1964, he founded the National Karate Association of Canada. His contributions to martial arts earned him a place in the Order of Ontario in 1998.
