Masao Tayama is a Japanese professional wrestling referee, born on January 2, 1971, originally named Masao Kaneda. He debuted in New Japan Pro-Wrestling as a referee in 1991 and became known for officiating junior heavyweight matches. Despite facing criticism for his refereeing skills and occasionally controversial decisions, he has maintained a long career. Tayama is notable for discovering a fellow wrestler's suicide attempt in 2007, which saved the wrestler's life. He has worked with various promotions after leaving New Japan Pro-Wrestling in 2008.
