Masaru Kobayashi, born on December 26, 1959, in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, is a former motorcycle road racer who achieved notable success by winning the All Japan Road Race Championship 250cc title in 1984 and 1985. After retiring in 1989, he served as the team manager for the Cup Noodle Honda team from 1990 to 1992 before pursuing a career as a helicopter pilot. Tragically, in 2004, he suffered a severe injury in a helicopter crash that left him paralyzed from the waist down, leading him to engage in wheelchair marathons while working in a waste disposal company.
